The quilting group, here at Resurrection, meet every Tuesday from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm between September and May.The quilters make hundreds of quilts that are distributed locally and abroad. The finished quilts are sent to Lutheran World Relief, N.E.W Community Shelter, St. John's Homeless Shelter, Freedom House, and Golden House. We have dropped off quilts at many other locations and the quilts are available upon request. Before the quilts are shipped to the desired locations, they are blessed by the Pastor.
All supplies that are used to make these quilts are all donated forcing the volunteers to be creative. Many times mattress pads or blankets are used as the filing for the quilts, bed sheets are used as the backing of the quilt, and different types of fabrics are sewed together as the top sheet. The end result is truly outstanding.
During the fall season, the quilters make pot holders for the families that we serve at the Food Pantry. Thanks to many generous donations, the quilters had many different holiday pattern to work with. Holiday patterns can't be used to make quilts because of the rules and regulations of Lutheran World Relief. This is the second year that the quilters have been making pot holders for our pantry.
The quilting group is not only supported by the church but also by the community. You don't have to belong to the church in order to join the volunteers. You don't even have to have knowledge on how to sew. Anyone is welcome to join.
